Wire theft causes $80k in damage
The theft of a few dollars in copper wire could cost tens of thousands of dollars in repairs.
On Monday afternoon the Guelph Police Service was called to a construction site near Speedvale Avenue West and Kathleen Street. Two homes under construction had been entered over the weekend and copper wire was cut out and removed.
The site supervisor told officers the stolen wire was likely valued at about $20, however because of how it was removed the homes may need to be completely rewired at a potential cost of $40,000 each.

Arrest after downtown assault
A Guelph man has been arrested after another man was assaulted over throwing snowballs last week.
Just after 3 p.m. last Thursday police were called to the area of St. Georges Square downtown. Investigation revealed a man was throwing snowballs at a youth when another man told him to stop, prompting a physical altercation during which the victim was punched and kicked in the head several times.
The victim sustained several cuts to his face and hand but declined medical attention.
On Sunday afternoon a 41-year-old Guelph man was located downtown and arrested for assault. He will appear in court April 15.
BMW stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a BMW SUV was stolen this week.
Just after 8 a.m. Monday police received a call from a resident near Waterloo Avenue and Beechwood Avenue, who had gone outside to find his black 2017 BMW X5 missing. The vehicle also contained a quantity of camping and fishing equipment.

Suspects sought in pair of break-ins
The Guelph Police Service is seeking the publics help identifying two men as we continue to investigate a pair of break-ins to the same Stone Road Mall business.Wireless Wave suspects
Just before 9 a.m. February 15 police were called to a break-in at a business in the mall. Two males entered the mall and went to one of the kiosk businesses, where a tool was used to force open drawers and steal a number of phones with a total value of $7,800.
Both males were described as possibly South Asian in their late 20s with chin strap beards and goatees. One was approximately 61 and 200 pounds and wearing khaki-coloured Adidas track pants, a grey jacket and black shoes. The other was shorter and wearing a silver jacket, burgundy track pants and white running shoes. They fled in a newer navy blue Hyundai Elantra.
Approximately 7:40 a.m. February 27, a witness called after seeing a man breaking into the same business. He fled while the witness was on the phone with police and was seen getting into the passenger side of a black vehicle, possibly a Toyota Corrolla. Cash and a number of phones were stolen.
The suspect who entered the business was described as a brown-skinned male with black hair and a thin beard and wearing a black jacket with a white collar over a light blue hoodie, dark pants, blue and white Nike sneakers and a red Ferrari hat. He was seen getting into a black car driven by a second person.
