Arrest after stranger sexually assaulted
A Kitchener man faces sexual assault and forcible confinement charges after a woman in Guelph was assaulted by a stranger on Friday.
Emergency services were called to a Guelph home Friday morning. An adult female said she was walking near Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway North just after 6 a.m. when she spoke to a male who was in a vehicle. She reported the male forcibly got her into his vehicle where she was sexually assaulted.
Investigation led to the identity of a suspect, who was arrested Friday afternoon at his workplace in Guelph. A 45-year-old Kitchener man is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault by strangling and forcible confinement. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
Man sleeps in model home, leaves wallet behind
A Guelph man is charged with break and enter after someone entered a model home, slept in the bed and left a wallet behind.
Saturday afternoon police were called to a model home in the south end. A local builder reported finding a window broken and a door ajar. Officers located blood on the broken window, and a trail of blood drops going inside the home where they found an empty beer can in the kitchen.
In a bedroom officers located a wallet on a nightstand. While officers were still investigating, they learned the owner of the wallet was being investigated for damaging a vehicle downtown by kicking it. Officers dealing with the male confirmed he had a fresh injury on his hand.
A 34-year-old Guelph man charged with break and enter, mischief under $5,000 and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
South-end business entered
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a south-end business was entered early Saturday.
Approximately 6:30 a.m. the owner of a business near Stone Road West and Edinburgh Road South reported he had received an activation from his alarm company and attended the business to find a back door open. A male was observed on video arriving at the business on a bicycle and forcing open the door.
He walked around the business before activating the alarm, at which point he fled.

Audi seized from repeat offender
A Guelph man had his Audi seized indefinitely after he was caught for a second time driving without a licence or insurance.
Just after 4 p.m. Friday, a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Unit was patrolling on Victoria Road South when his automated licence plate reader alerted him to a vehicle with an expired permit. Investigation confirmed the driver has not been licensed since 2017.
The Audi SUV was stopped and the owner, who was driving, confirmed he does not have insurance. Investigation revealed the male was charged last summer with driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
A 40-year-old Guelph man is charged with driving without a licence, driving without insurance, driving a vehicle without a permit and using improper licence plates. To prevent continuation of the offences his vehicle will be impounded until the charges are dealt with or he can convince a court to release it.
Two impaired arrests
Two Guelph men were arrested for impaired driving on the weekend, including one who was driving a rented vehicle.
Approximately 7 a.m. Saturday, an officer was patrolling near Speedvale Avenue West and Kathleen Street when he observed a vehicle travelling at a high speed and changing lanes without signalling. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected an odour of alcohol.
After failing a roadside breath test he was transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 32-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Just before 5 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle was caught on radar travelling 87 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Clair Road West. The officer spoke to the driver and asked him to perform a roadside breath test, which resulted in a fail. Further testing at the police station confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 47-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and speeding. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his rented Ford Bronco was impounded for seven days.

Please dont drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
