The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is aware of misinformation currently circulating on social media and is providing the following clarification.
On October 21, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Northumberland OPP arrested one individual on County Road 45 in Roseneath in connection with a trespassing complaint. This incident was the subject of a previously issued media release titled Person Arrested for Trespass and Mischief.
On October 22, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of what was believed to be possible gunshots in the area of Macklin Road and County Road 45. Officers patrolled the area, but no further sounds were heard, and no evidence of gunfire was located. Northumberland OPP have been made aware of social media reports that officers were involved in a firearms incident and that one person was shot and taken into custody. This information is false. It appears to stem from a misunderstanding or confusion of the two separate incidents described above.
The OPP reminds the public to rely on verified sources for accurate information and to be cautious of unverified reports circulating online.
